Mumbai and the humid heat goes hand in hand, the people in Mumbai rejoice over the rains after a long sweaty summer, it isn’t long before they start cribbing over the water-logging and traffic mess that the rains in Mumbai usually brings along with it. To speak about Pune, there are days when there are rains, some days no rains. To escape from that, we have a list of places awesome places to visit near Mumbai in monsoon. No going far away, just outside Mumbai and Pune which makes perfect weekend getaways.

1) Malshej Ghat :

A hill station in the mighty Sahyadri ranges, this place near Mumbai — Pune outskirts in monsoon is engulfed in green hills and innumerable waterfalls. The drive to Malshej Ghat through itself is calming with the picturesque view of the splendid valleys and placid lakes.

2) Lonavala and Khandala :

Amazing two hill station of Lonavala and Khandala, nearby Mumbai in the vicinity of the Deccan Plateau has some great packages to offer of land and water. Drenched in the lush green beauty of nature with little poodles of water.There’s a Celebrity wax museum here madew on the lines of London’s Madame Tussaud’s.

3)Durshet :

With the lush green canopy covering the forest, it has to offer pure tranquility and calmness. Located in the lap of Sahydari river, this place is a must for the monsoon getaway, near from both Mumbai and Pune. A place full of waterfalls, rainy season is worth a visit here.

4) Lohagad Fort :

This fort exists among the exquisite heritage of the times of the Chartrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The entrance of the fort is called the Wind Spot which leaves you literally swept off your feet. With a splendid view from the top the beauty it has is spell bound.

5) Karnala :

An envelope of green with gushing waterfalls, Karnala is one of the closest places near Mumbai situated just 80 kms away. Treks or drive through Karnala from Mumbai offers a majestic view of the misty Sahyadri Ranges in the monsoon. The waterfalls are refreshing and the Karnala Fort has much to explore. Karnala Bird Sanctuary is home to some of the most exotic birds. Monsoon sees a variety of migratory birds.

6) Thosegar Falls:

Thoseghar Village in Satara is filled with waterfalls ranging from 20 metres to 500 metres in height. The Thoseghar Falls, one of the best waterfalls near Mumbai in monsoon are in their prime in the monsoon with more water gushing from the heights. A calm and serene surrounding with a quiet lake and the only noise filling the silence is from the waterfalls.

7) Mahabaleshwar — Panchgani :

The most popular hill station in the Sahyadri Ranges of Maharashtra, Mahabaleshwar offers a fantastic panoramic view of surrounding hills and valleys. Monsoons cover the area in thick vegetation and waterfalls and springs crop up. Mahabaleshwar receives some of the highest rainfalls in Maharashtra which makes the hilltops look dressed in rains. About 20 kms from Mahabaleshwar, there is another hill station called Panchgani.

8) Igatpuri:

Igatpuri being the best monsoson getaways from the hustle bustle of our daily life is nearby Mumbai and even Pune. The beautiful little hill stations in the hills of Sahyadri will steal your heart away. You will get to visit a number of ancient temples in the landscape of Igatpuri.
