Three reasons that stop me from writing
What about the solutions I have found to help me that might help you?
Over the months, I identified three reasons that prevent me from writing. I then found solutions to help me. I already had one, I just needed to get it out of the academic context where I had put it and forgotten about it.
For two others, it’s a long-term job. Habits and a way of thinking that I have to keep in mind at all costs
Being a non-native English speaker
My huge country — Belgium —, counts three official languages: Dutch, French and German. As I’m born in the South, my mother tongue is French. I never learned German and my Dutch is awful, ask my boss. Instead, I’ve always been attracted by oriental languages. Such as Japanese when I was a teenager, Chinese during University and recently Arabic.
Before I went to University, I could find any reason not to go to English classes. It didn’t take long for me to realise that Shakespeare’s native language was essential to survive at an academic level. I’m grateful for the many pieces in English that I had to read and analyse. My level scaled in a way I could even imagine before starting my studies.
