As I write this, I am sitting here in Central Florida. Hurricane Ian has already devastated Cuba, which lost power on the island, and has made landfall on the coast of Florida.
Preparing for the worst, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency to mobilize the National Guard several days before the arrival of the storm. US President Joe Biden spoke to DeSantis and announced that that every request from the State had been supplied.
This is the first major hurricane to hit Florida since Hurricane Irma in 2017, and is currently an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane, with only 5 more powerful storms ever hitting the Continental United States.
Thankfully, unlike most natural disasters, with hurricanes we at least get a few days of warning, so the family and I packed it up and moved a few hours inland.
