BERLIN — At a speech in Berlin last Thursday, National Socialist candidate Adolf Hitler was shouted down by Communist Party instigators. This week, a large number of free speech activists took to the streets in protest.

CMB correspondents in Germany went out and into the crowd yesterday looking for answers.

“It’s completely wrong to stop someone from speaking because you don’t like what they’re saying,” said one activist. “He must be allowed to speak freely so we can defeat him in the marketplace of ideas.”

We caught up with opposition protesters from the Communist Party to find out what they had to say. One spoke with us on condition of anonymity, fearing reprisals.

“This man wants to kill people. Is anyone actually paying attention? This man is actually talking about mass murder! Are you listening? I don’t understand why we have to respect or protect this kind of speech! This needs to be sto-”

He was cut off mid-sentence by another free speech activist, who then interjected into the interview like an entitled dickbag.

“If you try to shut down his right to freedom of speech you’re no better than he is! Let Hitler speak! Let Hitler speak! Let Hitler speak!”

The free speech activist next lead a small group of activists in chants of “let Hitler speak.” Although they say they were with the SPD, the primary party opposing Hitler’s NSDAP in the coming 1932 elections, one of them remarked that it was important that German values were upheld.

“Our countrymen are intelligent and sophisticated people. I’m positive that when given the choice between rational leadership and a buffoon like Hitler, they’ll make the right choice. Until then, we need to make sure that free speech, our most important value, is respected. We’re better than this.”

Nearby members of the Communist Party seemed unimpressed.
