Biographer provides videography on-demand at reasonable rates. Uber for videography: way better than shooting on your iPhone, way cheaper than a traditional agency.

There’s a lot of “Uber for X” ideas floating around, with good cause. To quote Peter Thiel in Zero to One, “the global supply of workers willing to do repetitive tasks for an extremely small wage is extremely large.” Here’s one. Video is fun to consume, but a pain to produce. Every iPhone can record, but most of us don’t know what we’re doing when it comes to video production. We don’t have a tripod, or much space on our phones. We have no idea how to use iMovie. And uploading videos to YouTube stumps first-timers. The whole process is intimidating and time-consuming. But what’s the alternative? Traditional video production companies cost an arm and a leg. Even simple shoots cost thousands of dollars.

Experience

Enter Biographer. It’s a big step up from doing it yourself, yet both less expensive and more convenient than a traditional company. Basically, it’s Uber for video production. There’s an app on the web and on your phone. You request a Biographer and they are at your location in minutes, ready to film. They’re not Anderson Cooper, but they’re curious and scrappy, and know how to conduct an interview. Afterwards, they take the footage home, do some basic editing, and get it up in the cloud for you to consume.

Pricing

Either $2 (no editing) or $3 (editing) per minute of on-site recording. At that rate, maybe you’d be watching, instead of reading, this e-mail. Conducting interviews, citizen journalism, broadcasting on YouTube — easier. Grandparents and old-folks wouldn’t die without telling their story. Weddings would be less expensive. What stories would be told?
