PlayZeum

— A play museum for adults

Yesterday I went to the Children’s Museum with Farhad to explore a collaboration he’s working on. Inside we found dozens and dozens of kids running around, exploring hidden corners and being encouraged to play.

Signs hung around the museum sharing the benefits of play. One read: “Providing children with unstructured time to play, and a safe environment deepens their explorations and learning.” As I walked around the four-story building designed to spark curiosity in children, I couldn’t help but wonder: Where is the play museum for adults?

As mothers and fathers sat on the sidelines watching their children, I wondered: Why aren’t they playing too? Why isn’t playfulness being encouraged with adults?

“A lack of play should be treated like malnutrition,” says Stuart Brown MD. Play immerses us in the moment, and brings us effortlessly into flow. It opens the imagination, invigorates the soul and helps us to bond with others.

Questions for the Cheeky community:
? Could you imagine a play museum for adults?
? What would it look like? What would you do there? What would motivate you to go?
? How much would it cost? How would you build it as a business?
? What role does “play” have in your life?
? How might you incorporate more play and adventure into the day-to-day?
? Instead of meeting for coffee, can you go on a walk through a park?
? Rather than work inside, can you get outside and let your curiosities lead the way?
