Unbundle.edu
— Bypass higher education by paying professors their hourly rate
What if you could bypass higher education? Instead of paying $250K for a degree from a Tier 1 institution, just pay professors their hourly rate instead — and go direct?
Upsides:
— Build direct 1:1 relationships with experts
— Satisfy your curiosity at the source
— Get mentorship, guidance, friendship, and allies
Downsides:
— “Degree” not yet recognized
— This doesn’t replace “student culture”
— This doesn’t provide extracurriculars or other extras (sports, events, etc.)
To “unbundle” higher education, you have to identify the constituent opponents:
1. The education itself (professors provide)
2. Practical applications (the market provides)
3. Overhead via sports, events, programs, etc.
4. Measurement… a “degree” is a proxy for measurement (tests, homework, GPA)
5. Friendships! (peer network)
Press “1” at the beep. ;-)
? Thoughts on unbundling education
? Would you have chosen this path instead of your typical 4 year university program IF credentials didn’t matter?
