Cheeky Unts: What’s Next?
Prepare for liftoff! Next stop: The Metaverse.
It’s been nearly three full months since we launched the Cheeky Unts: Road Trip collection. We’re all still driving this project forward on a part-time basis, and we’re honestly quite proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. We’ll also be the first to admit that there are areas for improvement.
While we’d love to just get into our path to the moon, it’s important to take a second to reflect on the past to frame up the “why” behind our plans.
Looking back so we can look ahead
Things we’re proud of
- Giving Back: we donated more than $50,000 in support of wildlife conservation charities.
- Community: we fostered a tight-knit community that a lot of people have come to call their “homebase”.
- Pydano: we built our own opensource framework for completing various tasks on the Cardano blockchain such as minting NFTs and executing airdrops.
Things we could have done better
- Roadmap Clarity: we’ve always known what the Cheeky Unts could become, but we were hesitant to commit to anything until we knew we could deliver on it. Making promises first and figuring out how to fulfil them after might work for other projects, but it isn’t our style. We understand how this can create ambiguity.
- Floor Price: as a charity-driven project, we’ll be the first to admit that the floor was never our top priority, but having it enter the abyss doesn’t help anyone.
- Community Acquisition, Retention & Engagement: we need to be doing more to bring new members into our Discord. Moreover, we need to give them a reason to stick around.
Things we’ll do more of
- Partnerships: the success of the Ethermobs partnership showed us the value of integrated partnerships with other CNFT projects.
- Social Media Engagement: we have one of the most active Twitter accounts out of any project and it has really shaped our brand in the CNFT space.
- Ask For Help: our community is our greatest asset, and it’s on us to activate it. The Unt Raiders are a great tool for us to amplify our messaging and we need to continue to leverage them.
Keep these reflections in mind as you read on; everything we have planned ties back to them in one way or another. Onto the fun stuff — buckle up, we have a lot to cover!
Roadmap updates
Q1-Q2 2022
Naked unts utility
We promised special utility for S1 Naked Unts and it’s our first deliverable for Q1. It’s so cool it gets its own section in this update. And don’t worry — just because you don’t have a naked unt doesn’t mean you’re out of luck! More on this in the Swanky Unts Club section.
Utility token
We’re going to need a utility token to take unts into the metaverse. Hang onto your unts as they’ll be your key to acquiring tokens. There’ll be a number of uses for the token in the metaverse including, but not limited to, redeeming for NFTs (3D Unts!).
Season Two: Pub Crawl
The unts are going global! Get ready for new locations, new animals and new items as voted by you, the community! Season Two preparations will launch as early as the end of Q1 2022. We’ll ensure we’ve seen sizable growth in our community prior to launch.
Donate $50,000 to global wildlife charities
Our charitable efforts will also be going global! We’ll be looking to spread the funds across more organizations this time around in order to maximize our earned media exposure.
Q3-Q4 2022
The Sandbox
NFTs were just the start of our journey. Backed by a team with over 15 years of experience in the game development industry, we are dedicated to building compelling experiences for the metaverse. In 2022, we will bring the Cheeky Unts to the metaverse by leveraging existing platforms like The Sandbox.
Play to earn, or simply play to have fun. Collect art, or just be part of an ever-growing community. Or do it all, the possibilities are endless. Just know that no matter how much or how little you do, you’ll be helping us continue to support wildlife and conservation charities!
Playtesting will start as early as Q3 2022.
Pavia
While there’s no shortage of hype around Cardano metaverses at the moment, they aren’t ready to support what we plan to build. As metaverses like Pavia continue to develop, we will look to integrate them into our roadmap.
Pydano
Pydano continues to be the backbone of the Cheeky Unts project, used for minting NFTs, running airdrops and doing various other tasks on the Cardano blockchain. The tool is open source and will be updated on an ongoing basis, with developer documentation coming in mid-2022.
Swanky Unts Club
An exclusive club is about to open for only the most stylish and luxurious unts. Introducing the Swanky Unts Club!
To be considered “swanky” enough, an unt needs to be sporting a limited-edition outfit inspired by the hottest designs in the CNFT space. Naked unts will receive an outfit from each of the various designers we’re collaborating with, granting them perpetual access to the Swanky Unts Club (SUC). Other unts have a chance to join the party, but space is limited.
How it’ll work
Similar to our partnership with Ethermobs, the SUC will feature airdrops of unique artwork created in collaboration with other CNFT projects. We want to ensure drop mechanics accomplish the following:
- Provide utility to naked unts
- Allow non-naked unts holders a chance at airdrops
- Incentivise Cheeky Unts holders to also hold partner CNFTs, and vice versa
With that in mind, 125 Swanky Unts will be minted for each partnership, with drop allocations as follows:
- 75 to be airdropped at a rate of 1:1 to naked unts.
- 25 to be airdropped to wallets holding at least one (1) Cheeky Unts — Road Trip NFT AND at least one (1) collaborating partner NFT.
- 20 airdropped to wallets holding at least four (4) Cheeky Unts — Road Trip NFTs.
- 5 reserved for a charity auction hosted by the collaborating partner or Cheeky Unts.
In order for an unt to be considered naked, all traits must be “None”, with the exception of Unt, Location, and Special. There are 75 unts in the Cheeky Unts: Road Trip collection that meets this criteria.
Partners
We have confirmed three partners to date and we plan to secure anywhere from 1 to 3 additional ones. Details on the first collaboration will be launched very soon, but here are a couple of teasers we’ve generated to hold you over until then:

Cheeky Unts Docs
You shouldn’t have to join a Discord server to get all the details about an NFT project. Even the way we’re set up now isn’t a great user experience; a lot of information is buried in old announcements. How do I use the casino? What are the bot commands? What are the benefits of owning an unt? How do I get a custom unt? It isn’t easy for new people!
That’s why we decided to create a Cheeky Unts Docs site on GitBook. Consider this a more formal resource for learning about the past, present and future of the project!
