Remember These Three Things

Leading a UX Research team includes a variety of responsibilities. One of my primary duties is teaching team members about things that they didn’t learn in school.

The three principles of ARC

When it comes to working with Product Managers and Product Teams, I ask my researchers to embrace the three principles of ARC:

  1. Alignment.

Yup. Sometimes it’s our job to make sure that everyone is on the same page. Alignment is key to successful and impactful research.

I’m surprised by the number of times I’ve learned that members of the product team weren’t aligned on what they needed to learn to move the business forward.

2. Relationships.

They matter. Build them. Nurture them. Rely on them.

We often overlook the importance of building relationships with key stakeholders. It’s invaluable when your work is supported by key players. It enables you to do your best research.

3. Communication.

Share your research findings once. Rinse. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

People don’t usually retain key findings until they’ve read/heard them more than once. Also, regardless of how many times you’ve emailed, posted or presented research findings, the content is always new to someone.
