How union budget 2018 will affect your Valentine’s Day?

On Thursday, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced 2018 budget in the Lok Sabha. Budget is out with a long list of financials but the biggest question for the lovebirds is - How will this budget affect their Valentine’s celebration?

• Jewellery: The price of silver, gold, platinum or other precious metals’s custom duty is hiked by 3%. Diamond also gets a 2.5 percent hike in custom duty. So if you are planning to gift a beautiful ornament to your partner then this valentine is going to be heavy on your pocket.

• Valentine’s Dining in hotels/restaurants: Under the new GST system, restaurants are broadly divided in non-AC and AC restaurants. So going for a romantic dining with your partner will attract the tax of 18 percent as against 10.6 per cent charged earlier (including VAT and service tax). Non-AC restaurants will charge 12 percent GST on the food bill. 5-star hotels will be even more expensive as the GST rate will be 28 percent. • Deodorants, bath essentials, perfumery, depilatories: This is not really a news for girls. Getting ready for Valentine’s special date night is going to be quite expensive by an increase in the price of custom duty from 10% to 20% on the above items.

• iPhone: Waited a long time to surprise your partner on valentine’s day ?We have some sad news for you, 2018 budget increases custom duty on mobile phones 15 percent to 20 percent. But there is no price increase on Indian manufactured mobile phones.

• Foot wear: Girls! Take a deep breath, taxes on the footwear have increased from 10% to 20%, so to get a gorgeous look on your valentine’s night you might want to look at your existing stock of beautiful pair of footwear.

• Long drive: Oh God! Finally, I have some good news for you. There is no changes in the prices of petrol or diesel. Take out your car, put on some romantic songs and go for a romantic long drive and spend the entire night under the light of twinkling stars.

• Video Game consoles: Are you a couple who enjoy playing games together? Well sad news here as well, the taxes on consoles have also been increased by 20%
• Solar Panel: Solar tempered glass or solar tempered glass used for manufacture of solar panel which is going to be cheaper, so if you can put some panels in your home to use solar energy to plan a home surprise and play some romantic movies in home then it might will help you to save some money for your next valentine’s day :D :D ;)
