The new scoreboard and audio system is expected to be installed for the 2019–20 season for the Bulls. The United Center will now be the largest fan-fitting arena in the NBA, seating close to 22,000 people, along with the “largest center-hung screen display with the highest technology of all arenas shared by the NBA and NHL teams”, according to United Center officials.

The United Center has been under continuous rebuild over the past five years. The building plan renovations originally date back in 2013 when the corporate offices inside the building were changed into fan amenities. The organization also completed a 190,000 square foot east addition back in 2017. Now, there are released plans for a new 4mm pixel 8,600 square feet LED display with six independent panels that will include kinetic movement on a constant inner ring display.

It is ironic that the arena and team have been undergoing rebuild during what may seem to be the same time period. The Bulls have had the highest NBA attendance for the ninth straight year despite the team’s tribulations and they hope to withhold that by improving the arena and the team hopefully creating an even more entertaining and marketable organization. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Reinsdorf family has more under their sleeves for United Center because they have continually reinvested in the UC over the years.

The Chicago Bulls team is already one of the most unique organizations in the NBA, and this addition will add one more thing to that list.
