Learning how to win….barely

This writer thinks Chicago has a decent chance for possibly their only 3-game win streak of the season following Saturday’s victory over Kristaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks

Lauri Markkanen was finally able to break his shooting slump in Chicago’s 104–102 victory over the New York Knicks. Possibly inspired by his first matchup against Latvian-star Kristaps Porzingis, Markkanen chipped in 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting. He did this while only making one of his five 3-point attempts. The fact that he can score efficiently even when his 3-point shot isn’t falling shows maturity well beyond his years.

Chicago played great defense against the Knicks, only allowing them nine free throw attempts on the night (compared to the Bulls 23 FTs). Kris Dunn had 17 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and three steals. Hoiberg is the first NBA coach to trust Dunn as a starting guard, and as a result he is getting the best version of Dunn.

New York made a late push and tied the score at 102 before a drive by Dunn earned him two free throws to take the lead. Porzingis had as good of a look as he could’ve wished for at the buzzer, but he uncharacteristically missed the open 3-pointer.

So, yes, the Bulls still need to learn how to hold onto leads. They won the first quarter 27–18 and then started to ease up on the defensive end. But it is great that Dunn has flashed the ability to be decisive in crunch time.

The Euro-big Battle results:

Kristaps Porzingis: 10-for-25, 23 points, four rebounds, one block

Lauri Markkanen: 7-for-14, 15 points, eight rebounds, two blocks

On to the next one:

Tonight Chicago plays the Boston Celtics at the United Center. Boston will be without Kyrie Irving, Marcus Morris, and potentially Al Horford. It is the second night of a back-to-back for the Celtics. If there is a perfect opportunity for the Bulls to get a three-game winning streak, this it.

Oh….and this:
