A New View of African Art (Ongoing)

Redesigned in 2019 with new lighting, spatial configuration, and improved informational displays, the Art Institute’s African Art Gallery is a must-see. The gallery incorporates and displays the many different art traditions practiced in different parts of the continent and explains each piece’s cultural and historical importance. There is also a section dedicated to the incredible textile and pottery produced throughout Africa, an overlooked form traditionally made by women.
