Meet ‘Hamilton’ Star Miguel Cervantes at Fairgrounds in Wicker Park on Friday
WICKER PARK — Hamilton’s Miguel Cervantes will be at Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea in Wicker Park/Bucktown on Friday to dazzle fans with a song he wrote for his daughter as well as perform a “Hamilton mashup,” according to a spokeswoman for the coffee shop.
The appearance kickoffs a campaign to raise money and awareness for Citizen’s United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), a cause important to Cervantes’ family as the actor’s daughter, Adelaide, suffers from infantile spasms.
Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea has created a special “Adelaide’s Blend” that launches today. One-fifth of all proceeds from sales of the blend will be donated to CURE. The bag costs $15.99.
Cervantes is scheduled to be at the coffee shop, 1620 N. Milwaukee Ave. from 10 - 11:30 a.m. on Friday. He’ll be performing around 11 a.m. as well as signing every “Adelaide’s Blend” bag sold during that time.
Cervantes, Chicago star of broadway sensation Hamilton, has a young daughter, Adelaide, who is suffering from a rare childhood epilepsy syndrome. Adelaide was in a New York hospital, undergoing a spinal tap, when Cervantes, at her bedside, got a call back to audition for the show’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, according to a Tribune story.
Along with the Wicker/Bucktown location, Adelaide’s Blend will also be available at the Fairgrounds across from Millennium Park (12 S. Michigan Ave.) and at the coffee chain’s forthcoming Minneapolis and Los Angeles outposts set to open in late spring.
As an added perk, customers who buy a coffee bag while Cervantes is at Fairgrounds will have the opportunity to enter a contest to win two free VIP tickets to Hamilton. Those who show up IRL at the meet-and-greet on Friday get two entries, while those who can’t, can post a photo of “Adelaide’s Blend” after buying it with the hashtag #MyShotAtEpilepsy for a chance to win.
The free tickets promotion ends April 30. Adelaide’s Blend will also be available by the cup.
