Stan’s debuts new doughnuts at Donut Fest, meet Le Stan and Stan Junior
WICKER PARK — Having gifted the world with the Biscoff Pocket, Stan’s Donuts could easily consider its contribution to humanity complete. But the bakery is not standing pat.
At Sunday’s fifth annual Donut Fest, Stan’s debuted a pair of additions to its menu: Meet Le Stan and the Stan Junior.
Le Stan is a distant cousin to the cronut: yes, it’s made from laminated croissant dough, no it isn’t round. The square-shaped treat is filled with a vanilla bean pastry cream that earned Stan’s a Best Filling trophy at Donut Fest. And it’s in stores now.
The Stan Junior is Stan’s version of those packaged doughnuts people pick up at gas stations or convenience stores. Think of it like the “slider” to a full-sized doughnut, and it will definitely be sold in packs, though Stan’s hasn’t decided on four or six.
“We’re still reinventing ourselves,” said Jon Becker, social media coordinator for Stan’s. (Fun fact: Becker started as a Stan’s barista and is the company’s lone remaining original Chicago employee.)
