London, 1st June 2022: Chiliz, the blockchain company that provides the technology behind Socios.com, the fan engagement platform, has appointed James Newman as Global Director of Corporate Affairs as part of a series of appointments as it invests further in its products and technology.

In the new role, James will be responsible for the global external affairs of both Chiliz and Socios.com, managing regulatory, political and media relations. With more than 14 years of experience in communications and regulated industries, James will also be responsible for informing the development of fan engagement using insight and stakeholder feedback, guiding the business as it develops new and improved offerings for sports fans all over the world.

James began his career in capital markets and prior to joining Socios, James was Corporate Affairs Director at Playtech, a listed gaming software company where he was involved in setting up a new standards body and worked on industry-wide commitments to increase standards in the sector.

Stuart Ramsey has also been appointed as Head of Brand Partnerships for Socios.com. Stuart will be responsible for establishing exciting new partnerships to bring even more and better benefits to Fan Token holders, and greater engagement between fans and brand partners, including retailers, kit suppliers and technology firms.

Stuart has previously held similar roles with the British Olympic Association and Southampton FC where he delivered long lasting fan-centered corporate partnerships. He will be responsible for building and leading a new Brand Partnerships division within Socios.com.

In Socios.com, Chiliz has built a market-leading fan engagement platform and it is focused on investing in Fan Tokens and the wider ecosystem to provide the best experience for fans. This includes working closely with clubs and other sporting organisations, as well as with a wide set of industry stakeholders to focus more broadly on the role of blockchain and crypto in sports and entertainment.

The appointments follow significant growth for Socios.com in 2021. Since its creation four years ago, the platform has amassed more than one and a half million users worldwide and has partnerships in football, basketball, UFC, Formula 1, tennis, and eSports.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Socios.com said: “Last year was Socios.com’s most successful ever. Our extraordinary growth shows the appeal of our offer, with fans and sports teams alike looking for new and exciting ways to engage with each other, irrespective of where they are in the world. We take our responsibility as a leader in this industry seriously, which is why we’re working hard to build an innovative and thoughtful global sports brand, and as we begin a new chapter, that’s exactly what James and Stuart have been hired to help us do.”

James Newman, Director of Corporate Affairs at Chiliz and Socios.com said: “The way fans engage with sport is evolving and Socios is at the forefront of that change, so I’m delighted to be part of the team. It’s our responsibility to ensure that as Socios grows, it does so in the right way, with fans at the heart. The Fan Token, and the blockchain technology behind it, are new and innovative products, so it’s just as important to communicate and educate, as it is to listen and learn.”

Stuart Ramsey, Head of Brand Partnerships at Socios.com said: “Socios.com is one of the most exciting businesses in sport right now, so I couldn’t be happier to join the team, particularly as we look to bring more value to users in the Socios ecosystem. Few fans support just one sport, or one team, so the potential for greater collaboration with brands to help us improve the Socios offer to fans is endless.”

Collectively, Socios.com has hired more than 148 people in the last 12 months, making Socios.com the largest fan engagement platform in the world. Socios has over 250 staff working in nine offices across the world, including London, Madrid, Malta, Miami, Lyon, South Korea, and Brazil.
