Why should China be proud to be the world’s second largest economy with 1.4 billion people?
For several reasons…
First, China began as a totally impoverished nation in 1980, and just over 30 years later, she became the world’s largest economy by purchasing power parity:
Second, in 1980, India had a similar size population and similar economic condition. But its economic growth was far, far slower. Being a Western-style democracy didn’t help it one iota.
Today, China’s economy is 5.6X larger by nominal GDP and 2.6X larger by purchasing power parity.
Let’s not forget that over the past 2,000 years, China and India had the largest economies in the world:
Third, China achieved all this without fighting a single war! China’s last war was in 1979 with Vietnam.
No other nation in history has ever grown so large, so quickly, so peacefully.
Fourth, in 2020, China finally eradicated absolute poverty once and for all. She did it by elevating 850 million people, according to the World Bank, which is more than double the size of the US population!
China is directly responsible for over 75% of the world’s poverty alleviation. Think about that for a moment.
Fifth, China is the only other nation capable of building supercarriers. Except for China and USA, no other country can afford it!
Later this year, China’s first supercarrier, the Type 003, will launch. The next supercarrier, the nuclear-powered Type 004, is on the drawing board. The Chinese should be very proud of this.
Sixth, China’s vast economy made it possible to host two wildly successful Olympic Games! The Chinese are brimming with pride.
