UK health care data startup, Medopad, takes capital from Chinese investors and strikes strategic partnership with China’s tech giants to tap into the 1 billion potential users to collect data for machine learning. (link)

Apple is investing another $160M to build a second data center in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The data center is part of Apple’s effort to strengthen its foothold in China and with its consumers. The data center will be ready in 2020. (link)

Ripple’s payment network is adding LianLian, the Chinese payment provider, to its RippleNet. (link)

Alibaba is pushing into the offline commerce world and into data services with investment in China-based retail analytics company Shiji Retail Information Technology Co. Today, Alibaba is already seeing significantly amount of consumer online trends from its e-commerce platform and payment app. (link)

China Central Television and Baidu are applying artificial intelligence to the annual Spring Festival television show producing an app that will generate traditional couplets with Chinese characters inputs from users. Couplets are auspicious sayings or good wishes matched in rhythm, length, and context. Imagine the feedback and new training data that would be collected from hundreds of millions of Chinese watching the Spring Festival show and using the app. (link)
