China’s Ministry of Education has officially approved Westlake University, a private institute that is something of an anomaly in the country’s tertiary education sector. Westlake is China’s first private comprehensive institute for advanced scientific study.(link)

Meituan, a food delivery giant, acquired Mobike, one of the major bike sharing firms in China. The deal may signal the beginning of bike-sharing consolidation to enable faster attainment to profitability through vertical integration and footprint expansion.(link)

Alibaba will buy food delivery app Ele.me to further expand its consumer presence. Alibaba currently owns 43% of the company today.(link)

China’s State Council has issued a set of guidelines to encourage the launch of landmark scientific projects that have international influence by 2050. The term “big science projects” refers to large-scale international science collaboration projects featuring heavy investment, large number of researchers, advanced and sophisticated equipment and grand research goals.(link)
