China completed third phase of 5G trial program. During this phase, China tested indoor and outdoor performance, core network and base station functions. Huawei, ZTE and the China Information and Communication Technologies Group were participants. China is viewed as one of the first countries in the world to roll out 5G at scale. In parallel, China is building a 5G ecosystem. Mantis Vision in Israel recently announced that it will join China Mobile’s 5G alliance.(link)

AutoNavi, Alibaba’s map service and app, announced that it has reached 100 million daily active users. AutoNavi was acquired by Alibaba in 2014 for $1.5 billion and has become an important mapping service for consumers and other companies such as ride sharing and delivery startups. (link)

Huawei Technologies is building two distribution warehouses and a research and development lab in South Africa as part its overall strategy to become the biggest seller of high-end smartphones in the country by the end of 2019. (link)

Tencent will restructuring its organization as the company shapes its next phase of growth. Tencent will consolidate three business groups into one to focus on cloud and smart industries. It will likely restructure its other social and content businesses. (link)
