Better Give Than Take
A story about collecting debt
During the Warring State period, there was a Lord called Mengchang (孟嘗君) who was famous for being born into a rich family and giving free food, free housing and a salary to three thousand men regardless of their abilities and background. Whenever Lord Mengchang travelled around the country to do business stuff, he brought some of these men with him. Last year I wrote about how two of these men helped Lord Mengchang in a life-saving heist with their extremely specific talents:
A guy called Feng Xuan was looking around for a job. He heard about Lord Mengchang’s three-thousand-man gang and asked for a job interview. So Lord Mengchang interviewed him.
“So, erm. Hi,” said Lord Mengchang.
“Hey,” said Feng Xuan.
“Welcome to the interview. Do you have any hobbies?” asked Lord Mengchang, trying to see what this man can offer.
“Nothing,” answered Feng Xuan.
“Any skills?” asked Lord Mengchang.
