It is big, and beautiful. Will it replace your laptop? No!

With the iPad’s sales dropping over the last couple of years, Apple really needed to do something to revive interest. Plus they needed to address a long-term Achille’s Heel of the iPad — the fact that its more a content consumption device, than one used for creation of stuff.

But while they were at it, they did try to create something that had it’s own raison d’être. So, while it looks almost exactly like the iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and a much, much bigger brother of the iPad mini 4, it does have a lot more that sets it apart.

The massive iPad Pro will feature a 12.9 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive display with a 2048×2732 resolution with 265 ppi. To give you an idea of the size of the screen — imagine the iPad Air 2’s screen, lay it on it’s side — that’s the width of the iPad Pro’s screen! That’s not all… put two iPad Air 2s side by side, and you’d have got the height (length) of the iPad Pro!!

The display is said to be downright gorgeous and extremely pleasing to the eye. On top of the display is a scratch resistant glass and an oleophobic and antireflective coating. In fact it’s said that there’s another treatment to the screen that bestows just the right amount of friction to mimic paper’s behaviour when used with Apple Pencil.

The iPad Pro will come loaded with iOS 9 and will be upgradable for many years to come.

The latest A9X chipset makes its debut on the iPad Pro. This impressive SoC backed by 4 GB of RAM is expected to make the device work like greased lightning on a particularly good showing.

The iPad Pro comes in 3 variants: 32 GB and 128 GB with only Wi-Fi connectivity and a 128 GB variant with 4G cellular connectivity.

The fingerprint sensor (Touch ID) has been improved on the iPad Pro and it’s a lot more slick and responsive, twice as fast as earlier versions! Which means you hardly get a peek at your lock screen before you get the Home screen in all its glory. You might just forget the wallpaper you have on your Lock Screen!!

The iPad Pro brings some very interesting features to the table (no pun intended) in the form of the accessories that come along with it (at a fair price, of course). There’s a magnetic fabric-encased keyboard (priced at ~ INR 11,150) which affixes to one side of the iPad. Apple has used ‘special fabrics’ to transmit power through the keyboard.
Doesn’t make a lot of sense? Doesn’t matter, because it feels sublime and works like a breeze!

Another decent piece of tech addition on the iPad Pro is the Apple Pencil — their stylus that will transform the iPad into a creativity tool. Apple’s claim of the Pencil being faster and more responsive than any other stylus in the market may be put to test soon enough. For now, it’s something that gets your work done efficiently.

The Pencil charges via a lightning connector, which can be found by lifting off the Pencil’s cap. In order to charge the Pencil, you just have to connect it to the iPad Pro. A full charge gets you roughly 12 hours of drawing, which is pretty sweet.

Imagine using iOS 9’s new multitasking features on this huge device and you’ll see why we at Chip-Monks stand vindicated when we predicted that the iOS 9 was actually being built for tablets (and specifically the iPad Pro), more than for the iPhone range.

The rear camera is the same 8 megapixel camera that debuted with the iPad Mini 4 and was present on the iPad Air 2. It supports burst mode, video recording at 1080p, slow-motion videos, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR and panorama.

The front camera is a 1.2 megapixel unit with f/2.2 aperture that results in clearer video calls and selfies. It too, supports burst mode! It is capable of recording 720p videos, just as before.

The iPad Pro 4 is available in three colours: Space Gray, Silver, Gold.
