The HTC U11 is HTC’s next flagship. But it’s a pricey one.

The long wait for HTC to come up with a new and fresh smartphone is finally over!

The Taiwanese company’s new flagship, the HTC U11 is out now, and it does come with some surprises. Initially called the HTC Ocean, it was later rechristened to HTC U11, which means it’s joined the HTC U family, following HTC U Play and HTC U Ultra.

HTC’s has never dithered on having the best hardware on it’s flagship devices, so it’s no surprise that HTC opted for Qualcomm’s latest chipset, the Snapdragon 835 (64 bit Octa-Core, up to 2.45 Ghz), to run the Android 7.1 Nougat + HTC Sense enabled phablet.

The Snapdragon 835 is said to be 27% faster than its predecessor and enables your device to be 40% more energy efficient than predecessors.
You’ll find the same chipset in Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Samsung Galaxy S8. The new chip, coupled with functionalities like Power Saving Mode, Extreme Power Saving Mode and Quick Charge 3.0 will give it’s 3000 mAh power source an advantage over its rivals.

The water proof phone comes with a a 5.5 inch display screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. This offers the device protection from high altitude drops and normal scratches while enhancing touch sensitivity and optical clarity at 1440×2560 resolution.

The HTC U11 comes in 4 GB RAM/64GB ROM and 6 GB RAM /128 GB ROM options, supports Flex storage and the memory can be boosted up to 2 TB using an external microSD card. The photography buffs need not worry, the phones comes with a 12MP (HTC UltraPixel 3 with 1.4μm pixel) camera with a BSI sensor, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), UltraSpeed Autofocus, Acoustic focus, Face detection and Pro mode with manual control, 32 second long exposure, and RAW format support. The selfie champions will not be disappointed either, as the HTC U11 comes with a 16MP (ƒ/2.0 aperture) camera which boasts of functionalities like Voice Selfie, Auto Selfie and Selfie Panorama, in addition to Full HD 1080p video recording.

Let us come to “Edge Sense”, a feature from HTC which allows you to maneuver some phone functionalities by pressing on the sides of the phone. When you squeeze the phone’s sides, the pressure sensors hidden underneath the glass edge register your touch and thus launch the configured app. If you have configured the camera, a squeeze can launch the camera and a second squeeze with click a pic. This functionality will come handy in winters when we are wearing gloves and it it freezing outside.

The team at HTC has also included development in the audio department, with HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition, 3D Audio recording with 4 microphones and Hi-Res audio stereo recording making the HTC U11 Hi-Res audio certified.

The phablet is hitting India in the INR 60,000 range — thus making it partly of the “costly clan”, however the HTC U11 does have many functionalities to offer and some are even exclusive to the Brand.

In the end, only the customer feedback will decide the device’s report card and destiny.
