Choon launched just six weeks ago and even though we’re just getting started, we thought it would be interesting to look at our progress so far. The bottom line is that Choon’s catalog has grown 6x since we’ve launched. From around 1,000 tracks at launch to nearly 6,000 today, and the rate of growth is increasing.
This level of response really shows that artists are looking for a better deal and think Choon might be where they can find it. If we zoom in to the past few weeks we see two even more exciting trends:
- The rate of growth is increasing. The number of new tracks has been increasing 25% week over week.
- Monetized Playlists, which launched last Thursday, increased that rate of growth even further. More tracks have been uploaded in the 6 days following the introduction of playlists than the entire size of the catalog at launch.
You can see this in the graph as it starts to tilt upwards in June, and then it spikes right near the end after playlists launched. Here’s a closer look at that time frame:
The interesting thing about Monetized Playlists is that it’s bringing in more artists, and those artists are uploading more tracks than they used to. Here’s a look at average number of tracks uploaded per artist just before and after playlists were introduced:
That’s an increase from 1.77 average tracks uploaded per artist to around 3.6. That combined with the increase in signups seems to have led to this acceleration in growth since playlists were introduced.
We spend so much time with our heads down building the next improvement to the platform that’s it’s worthwhile to step back and take stock once and a while. We’re so excited to see this level of response so early in the life of Choon, it means we’re on the right track and we can’t wait to show you all the amazing stuff we’re working on next.
