Finally, the ‘Buy’ button goes social

Without a doubt, the ‘Buy’ button is the most profitable button on the Internet. Just imagine how many times it’s clicked every second. It sells over a trillion dollars worth of products and services per year.
One part of the Internet that has been left out by the ‘Buy’ button was social media. Now, however, social media has grown so big that the ‘Buy’ button has practically nothing left to do but to gain new capabilities and go social.

Twitter is planning on launching a new ‘Buy’ button this year.

The button would allow to make purchases without leaving the service.
Later this year, Twitter is expected to unveil buttons within tweets that would either say “buy” or use some variation of the word; after clicking the button, shoppers are expected to be able to enter payment and possibly shipping information without leaving Twitter.

It’s being rumored that businesses that want to sell products or services within tweets are being instructed to sign up with Stripe to process payments on their behalf. While Stripe is believed to be Twitter’s only payments partner now working on the e-commerce business, it’s not clear whether that will remain the case over the long haul.

Facebook way

Last year, Facebook release a step to accommodate e-commerce with the “Autofill with Facebook” feature which allowed businesses to put an “Autofill with Facebook” button on their site. If the customer has a credit card on file with Facebook, the button will complete their billing info, so they don’t have to type it.

Few moth ago, Facebook has started testing payments inside the social network. The ‘Buy’ button will allow to make purchases without leaving Facebook.

According to the VP of Marketing at Facebook, the social network is about to turn into a “social marketplace”. Kevin Bobowski said that users had gained enough trust to the social network in order to make purchases directly through Facebook.

In fact, Facebook calls this the safest way to pay for things on the Internet.

“NONE OF THE CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD INFORMATION PEOPLE SHARE WITH FACEBOOK WILL BE SHARED WITH OTHER ADVERTISERS”

Bottom line:
By shaving down the time and effort from intent to purchase, the “buy” button is expected to get more people plopping down cash for e-commerce purchases than ever. That’s something that retailers are waiting for with bated breath.
