This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Your eyes open. A bird is singing; a gentle rain patters on your steel helmet.

With a groan, you get up. If you starve you’ll be no use to your family. You need to eat, and soon.

Looking around, you can see the hills of home off to your left. That means that the forest’s heart is to the right. You turn, and trudge on.

After an hour or so, you meet a path, and your heart leaps. There must be a settlement. Woodcutters?

Ahead, someone is arguing. An elf is surrounded by… orcs!! You hurry on, drawing your sword…
