You nod gratefully but know you can’t involve anyone else in this suicide mission. For now, they are safe; they should stay that way.
You wait until everyone is asleep and quietly slip away.
As you journey towards the fortress, your nerves start to fray.
By dawn, the fortress looms in the distance. You know you’re getting closer to your family.
However, as the sun reaches its zenith, you sense someone or something is tracking you. Your ears prick. You decide to hide behind a large tree quickly.
You wait—tense.
Suddenly, something crashes through the brush . . .
