Yard waste pick-up has started here!

We chopped down a tree in our yard and are able to bundle branches for pick-up and commercial composting

This week we embraced the seasonal yard waste pick-up from our county. From April through October, Hennepin county will pick-up yard waste every week.

There are no significant limitations as long as you bundle your sticks, bag your weeds, or use a labeled container (see image above).

We are very fortunate to have this service and grateful for it too! This weekend, we cut down a buckthorn tree that was as much a mess as it was a danger (huge thorns).

We are using the large pieces of the trunk and limbs to dry and burn in our outdoor firepit and bundled the rest.

As for waste, we had an uptick in recycling (birthday in the house!) and our trash returned to the normal-less-than-25% average.

Here are our totals for the week, rounded up to the nearest 25%. (Now skewed with a small cart)

Our small waste bags have continued to help us immensely reduce what goes in the trash! Also, the kids have absolutely got the hang of what is waste, what can be recycled, and what can be composted — and best yet — when they don’t know… they ask! YES!

Trash: 25%

Organics: 75%

Recycling 1: 100%

Recycling 2: 50%

Extra: Seven bundles of branches, a bucket filled with small clippings
