DYSTOPOLIS is a minialistic cyberpunk run n’ gun shooter made in one week for the May 2016 Game Jam by GameCamp in Davis. This game was highly inspired by popular title Broforce after my brother and I spent a month to beat that fun, but challenging arcade shooter.

DYSTOPOLIS was a practice in level and art design for me. I spent the first couple days laying out simple code for this relatively simple game so that I could spend the rest of the week focusing on the game’s art and level design, aiming to create a beautiful, yet easily understood and clear experience for players. By using a minimalistic approach to coloring, players can more easily recognize dangers in a dim-lit scene and more easily keep track of their player amongst the chaos. In this game, I also attempted to practice particles and other various special effects in order to create a much more polished feel for a game that would only have a week’s worth of time to create.

As of now, DYSTOPOLIS is a proof of concept available on itch.io for the public to play. As of now, there is no plans on continuing the project, but I may have the interest to continue it sometime in the future.
