Take yourself on a journey to the depths of Middle Earth (aka New Zealand) as we imagine a lush fantasy realm where Frodo has the voice of Planet Earth’s David Attenborough and the adventure only lasts as long as the wine does. It sounds impossible to travel to such a magical place, but if you close your eyes and savor a sip of Sauvignon Blanc… you’ll probably still be in your living room — and still be sans pants (even though it’s already 2 in the afternoon).

Thankfully you have me, America’s Foremost Amateur Internet Wine Expert (look, I’m even published on Medium!). Through my many travels to America’s famous “corn wine” country (aka Illinois) I’ve become acquainted with someone who knows New Zealand wines first-hand: Travel blogger Elizabeth Mavrogenes (roadliztraveled.com). She brought me a true clash of the Kiwis: A ~$10 bottle of Oyster Bay and a $20-$30 bottle of Cloudy Bay.

Both are Sauvignon Blancs from the Marlborough Country (New Zealand’s wine of choice) but one costs over twice as much as the other! Will we be able to tell which one is which in a blind taste test?

Here are some hints from this all-new episode of America’s favorite 5-star podcast that doesn’t claim to successfully do anything:

  • One of the wines is grassy, peachy (like a gummi peach ring), and will definitely “hit ya in the face.”
  • The other wine is “not a grapefruit” and feels like sipping “an ice cold lemonade.”

Which one of those could be yours for just $10? Listen as we reveal the results of the blind taste test and struggle to pronounce “Marlborough” — this week on Chris Tries to Review Wine!
