A Home to Dwell
5th DECEMBER 2022
God places the solitary in families and gives the desolate a home in which to dwell; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. Psalm 68:6 AMPC
Many people are lonely and assume they must traverse this world on their own. We will discover in today’s devotional that this is not God’s design for any of His children. By creating a family system, God has already handled the problem of man’s solitude or loneliness. It is possible to be surrounded by many people and still feel terribly lonely. This is not, however, God’s intention for His family.
God’s intention is for us to develop true relationships in His family. Relationships where we feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable, not as a sign of weakness, but as a channel through which we can get strength and support from one another. This requires deliberate effort from all participants, and we must all be willing to put in that work.
Life’s path includes both mountaintop moments and rocky roads and valleys. God surrounds us with friends who will share our pleasures and sorrows. We are able to seek the collective well-being of every member of this God-given family as a unit, which gives praise to God.
Have you ever wondered why wolves prefer to attack lone prey rather than prey in herds? Staying united as a team is also a method of defence against the enemy. In addition to being able to support one another as a family, we are also surrounded as a unit, making it harder for the adversary to break in. When the opponent intends to start an attack, the first thing he does is isolate us. That is why he consistently opposes unity in both our spiritual and biological families. He frequently produces tensions that make us feel like we’d be better off alone, in order for us to break our circle of fellowship.
No family is flawless, but as we grow in the fruit of the Spirit, our family relationships are strengthened for God’s glory.
Thank You, Father, for not creating us to be lonely. When family conflicts mount, may we find the wisdom and love to resolve all things. Teach us to always remember that we are better together in the home You have placed us in. Amen
