A few days later, Jesus went out to a mountain to pray. He stayed there all night praying to God. Luke 6:12 ERV

Luke 6:12 conveys a straightforward message: “pray for a long time.” The concept of spending a lot of time in prayer comes from our Lord Jesus Christ, not from men. The Bible recalls a number of situations in which Jesus spent time alone, praying for long periods of time (for example throughout the night)

Some claim that because God knows our needs before we ask, there is no need to pray (for long). Others believe that people who pray for an extended period of time end up repeating words or phrases to God (something Jesus warned against in Matthew 6). It is thus critical to comprehend the foundation of long-term prayer.

Prayer releases power; therefore, the more we pray, the more power we make available to produce the desired transformation. As one God’s minister put it, “what prayer cannot do, more prayer can do.” Sometimes a certain need necessitates a longer time in prayer until we receive confirmation, from the Holy Spirit, that it has been addressed. Don’t stop praying until you get an answer.

Long periods of prayer indicate how much time we wish to spend each day with God. The more we realise that prayer is communication, a form of relationship with our heavenly Father, the more we will pray. If you love someone, you will enjoy conversing with them for extended periods of time without taking track of the time. True believers yearn to spend time in prayer with God.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for giving us so much grace to be able to pray more. Help me to continue developing and expanding my prayer life, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
