” For here is the way God loved the world — he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. “ [John 3:16 TPT]

It’s a love story as old as the stars. Older, actually, because the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world [Revelation 13:8]. This is the story:

There’s a poor peasant girl and a prince charming. Nobody knows what he sees in her, but he sets his eyes on her and pursues her till she becomes his. And when she does become his, a whole new glory is revealed. He brings out the princess in the pauper, the beauty that was hidden beneath the rags.

Is that not the story of the cross? How the Prince of Peace came down to pursue you and me, in the most extravagant display of love, He said He would die for us, and unlike the singer who promised to catch a grenade, He actually did.

That is real love. Not chocolates, not flowers, but blood — when God backed up His words with actions.

So as the world celebrates love today (and love devoid of lust really is a thing worth celebrating), remember the words of the Great Lover Himself:

“There is no greater love than this: that a person would lay down his life for the sake of his friends.” [John 15:13]

The greatest love has already been shown. Remember that and do not settle for less.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Jesus Loves you.

“Gracious Father, thank you for the love displayed on the cross. Help us grasp its depth. As we celebrate love today, inspire us to reflect that selfless love in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
