Be Fruitful and Multiply
27th SEPTEMBER 2020
Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness [2 Corinthians 9:10 NKJV]
If God had a favourite mathematical operator, I think it would be the multiplication symbol: He told Adam, “Be fruitful and multiply”; God multiplied five loaves of bread and two fish; and through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus, He has multiplied His children across the face of the earth.
Somewhere in God’s nature, there is a desire to see good multiplied throughout His creation. God wants to take our efforts and multiply the results. As we go about in ministry (doing good for the benefit of others that brings glory to God), we are sowing seeds of righteousness whose fruits God will multiply.
That’s the beauty of partnering with God; His input multiplies our effort and in this, God gets His glory because it becomes evident to everyone that we are not accomplishing these achievements by our own efforts but rather with the help of God. It is like multiplying a relatively small number by a very large number; the result cannot be insignificant.
The secret is to commit everything we do and all we have to God if we desire to be fruitful and multiply.
When Moses encountered God at the burning bush in Exodus 4, God told him “Throw it [your staff] on the ground.” From the moment that staff was thrown down before God, it was never the same again. Moses went on and used that same staff when parting the Red Sea, as well as when he drew water out of the rock.
In fact, that is the same principle behind tithe; commit your resources to God first and the rest will achieve more than the usual. Now, even if that is an old testament principle, the new testament covenant requires that our entire lives be handed over to God. It’s not so much about the life (let’s face it, we are not that awesome) as it is the hands into which you commit your life. Just as five loaves of bread in God’s hands can feed 5,000 people, so your life in God’s hands will do a lot more than you can ever think or imagine.
Hand over the reins of your life to God. He knows what to do with your life better than you do and He can multiply the fruit of your existence like no other.
Heavenly Father, I surrender my life to You. Please teach me how to be fruitful in my ministry so that at the end of the day, all glory will be given to You. Amen
