Be Generous in Winning Souls

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” [2 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV]

Several missionaries have made quotes that suggest that their focus was on the salvation of others. An example is Henry Martyn who said, “The Spirit of Christ is the Spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become”. Keith Wright also said, “Lost people matter to God, and so they must matter to us”. The focus is always on other people.

Jesus laid down everything and humbled Himself even to the lowliest point, so we might be saved. He wore a crown of thorns, stripes from being whipped and endured the shame of the cross. All these sacrifices just so we can receive the riches of God’s love and life, and be who we’ve been destined to be in Him. As sinful as we were, the Lord had to make the first move with the greatest sacrifice, so we will have eternal life in Him.

Sacrificing for the benefit of others is practically the foundation of our faith as Christians.

Understanding the heart of the Spirit and the Lord’s love and desire for all men to be saved will allow us to count every pain as joy, just so others can have the opportunity to hear and receive the Lord.

No matter who we are, what we achieve in our journey of life, our wealth, career or academic qualifications, as the Holy Spirit helps us, we must be willing to lay these down or use them as tools and be the lowliest people as Jesus, that others may hear, believe and be saved.

As put by C. T. Studd, “If Jesus be God and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him.” Why? Because He first did it for you and me and continually shows His love especially when we are least deserving of it. You know the joy and benefits you have received by accepting Jesus. Are you willing to sacrifice so someone else can enjoy the same?

Thank you Lord Jesus for the opportunity to sacrifice for others as You did. I humbly ask that You will let this mind be in me through your Holy Spirit and help me count every pain as joy that others may come to the knowledge of Your salvation. Amen.
