But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior.” [Philippians‬ ‭3:20‬ ‭NLT]‬‬

As children of God, we are pilgrims on this earth. Therefore, we should not lose sight of the fact that we are citizens of God’s Kingdom through Jesus who became the propitiation for our sins. In light of this truth, let us endeavour to not be overly concerned about temporary things which fade away with time, but rather, we must concern ourselves with things of eternal value. Thus, we must utilise our time on earth to represent God’s kingdom — where our eternal citizenship is.

Knowing whose we are and where we will one day spend eternity is very important. Many believers are unaware that we are in this world but not of this world. Our true identity is in Christ, and in Him, we have all our security and benefits as citizens. Do not live in this life like there is no hope for tomorrow. As believers, our lives must bring glory to our Father and His Kingdom. Forgetting or ignoring the fact that we are of God’s Kingdom is a sign of immaturity.

We need to always remember that heaven identifies us as its own and our lives, therefore, should be characterised by the lifestyle of children of God.

One thing we know for sure is that temptations will always come; the enemy will come in diverse ways to rob us of what belongs to us, but knowing whose we are, goes a long way in helping us to overcome the devil’s tricks. It is wise to have our true identity sealed in our hearts.

We belong to Jesus, thus, our hope and heart’s desire should be to meet Him in eternity, so we can finally spend forever in the place He has prepared for us.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for making me a citizen of heaven. Help me to please You and do Your will whilst I live.
