Consistency is Key
6th OCTOBER, 2021
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it.
[2 Timothy 3:14 ESV]
Have you wondered what it takes for people to become masters at their art? What is it that sets celebrated leaders or those who excel in their chosen fields apart? Anyone can start a good habit or a venture, but consistency is the force behind sterling results. It is great to start something, but a person’s consistency determines if and how [s]he will finish.
The path of leadership is certainly not an easy one. Jesus once told his disciples in Luke 9 that if anyone would come after Him, he must be ready to deny himself and take up His cross daily. ‘Daily’ here speaks of consistency. The hallmark of every great leader is an unwavering commitment to certain habits that have shaped them over time.
To become the leader God wants you to be, you must decide not to cave in to the pressures of life. Staying grounded in the faith requires consistency with godly habits so that you can grow regardless of circumstances. There are times you will grow weary, but that is not a free pass to forsake Christian disciplines like prayer, the word, or fellowship with other believers.
Continue to serve God with your gifts, don’t stop giving generously. Keep putting into practice everything you have been taught by those God has set over you. Stay in the company of fellow believers who will encourage you in your walk with God. There is no magical formula for spiritual growth. You must ‘take up your cross daily.’
Consistency with the Christian disciplines you have learnt is what will empower you to lead yourself, before you can lead others well.
Dear Lord, I confess that I sometimes struggle with picking up my cross daily. Please help me to be consistent in my walk with you.
