Desire to be with God

7th JULY 2022

Christ for Youth International

Ever wondered why we are here? Why did God create us? It’s actually beautiful if you think about it. We are created to enjoy His presence, but unfortunately, we look for the meaning of life elsewhere. Adam and Eve, before the fall, enjoyed the presence of God in the garden of Eden. However, when they sinned, there was a separation between man and God (Romans 5:12). The relationship Adam and Eve had with God before the fall is the one He still wants us to have with Him today.

Our verse today has God pointing to us that if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. God, being our creator who knows our capabilities, tells us that if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. God knows that it is very possible to find Him, and He desires to be found by you. All the efforts of sending His only Son on the cross were so that He would pave a way for you to enjoy His awesome presence. God knows it’s possible for you to find Him, that is why He instructed it.

“The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.” Psalms 14:2 NLT

According to Psalms 14:2, the one whom the LORD considers wise is the one who seeks God. Since we are here on earth for a purpose, wouldn’t it be wise to seek the One who made us? God’s presence is everywhere, yes! But the manifestation of His presence isn’t. Today as Christians, it’s very important that we yearn and seek after that manifestation, knowing that God did not leave us to wonder on our own to seek His presence. He has made a way, and He has given us clear instructions on how to find Him. The book of Acts 17:27–28 shows the purpose God has for us, that we seek and find Him. God did not just create you to go to school, get married or marry then retire and die at a good age. There is more to what you are created for. Let us not be too lazy or ignorant that we miss the presence of God in our lives because we are too concerned with the things of this life. These things will pass away and will not give us the joy or fulfilment we long for.

David in Psalms 16:11 points out that “in the presence of God is the fullness of joy”. Could it be that most Christians today are miserable or depressed because they don’t take time to be in the presence of God? I urge you today to take some time off social media and other distracting things and instead seek God’s presence. Remember, God is not far from you, and He desires that you find Him. Oh, what a great joy it is to be in the presence of our Father!
