Don’t Bury Your Gift
5th AUGUST, 2021
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. [Matthew 5:16 NIV]
A dawn of pondering is upon us. How important is salt or light in your life? How is salt made salty if it should lose its taste? Whose identity are you parading with? Examine yourself and answer sincerely. Directly or indirectly, you are important in the kingdom of God.
Light, be as tiny as it is on the tip of a lit match, does it not show its flames to the shame of darkness? So, what are you hoarding within and refusing to give way? What are you doing hiding yourself when you can’t be hidden, you city set on a hill? We are all buried treasures yet to be discovered or probably already discovered. But it all depends on our ability to accept the guidance of the Holy Spirit to fully bloom like that flower in its season. And so, what is your gift?
In you are planted seeds that are meant to bear fruit; the power dwelling in you as God’s own workmanship which is meant for His glory. There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of works, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. We are vessels, and our functions are to carry “things.” We carry the power to change what is impossible in the eyes of man, like Peter and John healing the man at the gate or David playing the lyre to calm Saul. God loves to see the expression of what He has planted in us to give Him glory. Do not bury your talent.
Have you ever wondered why you can do what you do? Do not only think about singing or writing. Think about your ability to set up and set down after meetings. Think about your ability to encourage people in their sternest times or even as little as cooking for people. These are all so that when we come together as children of God, we are made whole and no gate shall be strong enough to hold us back.
Gifts come with service; service to God. Therefore, for the manifestation of the glory of God, our gifts have to be expressed in His name. So let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. This is only possible through serving because, by serving, we put our gifts to use. By faithfully serving with our gifts, we bless others and in turn, are blessed too. Just as our worship of God must be seen in everything we do, so must our praises be lifted up by the expression of the gifts He has placed in us.
Remember, the entire creation eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God, and that is who we are.
Father, forgive me if I belittled Your gift in me. Forgive me if I have been selfish with Your gifts and please show me how to glorify You with it. In Jesus’s name, Amen
