“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” [John 10:10 NIV]

Harvest time is a season of abundance and gratitude, a period when the fruits of our labour are gathered, and the blessings of God’s provision are most evident. It is a time to reflect on the journey, the challenges we overcame, and the faith that sustained us through the planting and growing seasons. As Christians, we recognise that the harvest is not just a physical gathering of crops, but also a spiritual season of reaping what has been sown in faith.

John 10:10 reminds us of two distinct forces that we can allow to work in our lives; the thief who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, or Jesus, who came to give us life in abundance. During the harvest, this verse speaks profoundly to our experiences. It challenges us to be watchful against the thief who seeks to undermine our faith and joy, while also urging us to embrace the fullness of life that Jesus offers.

In every season, especially during the harvest, we may face distractions, doubts, and discouragements.

The enemy seeks to rob us of our peace, joy, and the fruits of our labour. But Jesus promises life to the full — a life overflowing with His blessings, peace, and presence. During the harvest, we see the tangible evidence of His faithfulness.

Once the enemy steals our hope and joy, it makes it easier for him to kill our faith which utterly destroys our lives. Therefore, in this harvest season, let us cultivate an attitude of gratitude, guard our hearts with prayer, scripture, and fellowship, and embrace the abundant life by actively seeking the fullness of life that Jesus offers. Let us choose to be awakened each day by the word and stomp on the devil’s schemes.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of abundant life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. In this harvest season, help me to recognise and guard against the thief who seeks to steal my joy and peace. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your provision and timing. Fill my heart with gratitude for the blessings You have bestowed upon me. May I live each day embracing the fullness of life that Jesus offers, sharing Your love and blessings with those around me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
