Give Thanks

What is your first line of action when you have a pressing need? When you’re scraping for scarce resources where much is needed, what attitude do you have? We often grumble and complain, become impatient, and do all we can to protect ‘the little’ we have. Rarely does it cross our minds to give thanks to God when we have an urgent need.

In Matthew 14, Jesus teaches us a very important lesson on thanksgiving when he feeds 5000 men with 5 loaves of bread and two fish. That little meal was no fit for the 5000 hungry men (not counting women and children) looking up to Jesus to be satisfied. But Jesus in a very calm and collected fashion asked that these hungry men stay put and not be driven away. Jesus then gave thanks for the little that he had in His hands and it was multiplied to feed the multitude.

A thankful spirit represents an expression of faith in God’s faithfulness in meeting our needs. A thankful tongue will always testify about God’s goodness. Even in dire circumstances, we must not stop declaring God’s praises and recounting His goodness to us in times past. Instead of complaining, if we focus on maintaining an attitude of gratitude, we will experience His miraculous power in every situation.

Our Father specialises in exceeding the expectations of His beloved children. Every so often, when we have come to the end of ourselves, our gratitude is just what may facilitate the miracle we seek. Remember to choose gratitude even when you’d rather grumble. God will show Himself faithful. He is the God of multiplication.
