God Desires Your Presence
6th JULY 2022
“Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come into you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.” Revelation 3:20 TPT
The language employed in our focal text is very telling of the God we serve, in that He is ever-present. The word “standing” is synonymous with terms such as permanent and indefinite, while “if” is used to introduce a condition. This indicates that God doesn’t show up in our lives occasionally, and He certainly doesn’t stay for a short time. He is always there, knocking gently because He desires to be with us. He desires that we experience him in our lives daily. However, this offer is conditional. It is contingent on our conscious awareness of His presence.
When we’re expecting a delivery or visitors in our homes, we make sure to keep both our eyes and ears peeled lest we miss them. Although God stands; keeps at it and doesn’t stop knocking, we must exercise the same level of mindfulness lest the noise and clutter associated with the busyness of life drown “the knock”.
In the account of the prodigal son, when the son came to himself, where did he go? Home, the place where his father could supply his needs, was present and scripture recounts that while the son was still a long distance away his father saw him coming and ran to embrace him. Like this father, God is eager to see us. He wants to spend time with us, and the good news is that He is near. He is present when we’re reading our Bible and also when we’re cleaning the kitchen, He is everywhere! We just need to pay attention. We need to become more aware of His presence, so we can hear Him and let Him in.
Thank You, Lord, that you do not withhold Your presence. Thank You for your desire to be with me and to fellowship with me. May I become more aware of Your presence in Jesus’ name, Amen.
