“However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.” [‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭AMPC‬‬ ]

Right from creation, it is evident that God specializes in using seemingly ordinary things to make huge statements for His glory. For example, His most prized creation; man, He formed from dust. He didn’t stop there, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living creature. The seemingly mundane, now a masterpiece! What made the difference? The very breath of God.

From there we get a glimpse of a dominant theme woven into all scripture. God uses ordinary men and women to accomplish His great purposes, not because they are superhuman. Our opening scripture today tells us that God himself empowers frail humans with His power and glory for great exploits.

Indeed, God doesn’t call the qualified, but He qualifies and empowers those that He calls. He isn’t looking out for perfect people with super abilities or stellar talents. He embraces all who will avail themselves and surrender to Him in humility. Ultimately, whatever He accomplishes through us is for His glory, not ours. We are only vessels that have been enriched by His grace.

Certainly, we are the jars of clay. But glory to God, we are not empty vessels. We are His prized possession because of the treasure He has deposited in us. We have the life of God inside us, therefore we are empowered to show forth the exceeding power and greatness of our God in our everyday lives. If we make ourselves available, God will use us to accomplish His marvellous works, as He did with the patriarchs and matriarchs of our faith.

Never look down on yourself or any other person for that matter. You are the perfect candidate for the next big thing God wants to accomplish. Will you avail yourself?

Thank You Lord that You find me worthy to be used by You. Open my eyes to see and effectuate all the opportunities You lay before me to be used as a vessel for Your glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen
