God Will Intervene

Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent this message to Hezekiah. Isaiah said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, says this: You prayed to me about the message that came from King Sennacherib of Assyria. I have heard you. 2 Kings 19:20 ERV

Let us try to grasp the impossibility of the situation that drove King Hezekiah to rush to God and cry out in prayer. Sennacherib, King of Assyria, had launched a military campaign to conquer various territories. He had grown arrogant and proud because of the territories he’d taken. He even mocked God because the gods of the territories he conquered failed to save their people. “Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad?” he asks. Where are Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah’s gods? “Did they save Samaria from my clutches?” [NIV 2 Kings 18:34]

Even though some of these other nations were better prepared, Sennacherib still conquered them. When King Hezekiah received the letter from King Sennacherib advising him to simply surrender, he recognised that human strength would not be enough to defeat the army. As a result, he prayed to God.

Take your situation or challenge to God in prayer, no matter how impossible or daunting it may seem. Even when we see no way out, He is the only one who can save us. There is nothing that God cannot do! He will bring us to a predictable end because He is a just and faithful God, and His Word will not return to Him void.

Turn to Him, lean on Him, and trust in Him. Then your stories may end like King Hezekiah’s in today’s text. God will intervene and clear a path through the desert. All we have to do is pray and trust Him.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for everything You do for and through me. I pray that in life’s issues where my strength and abilities fail me, You will do for me what appears impossible in the eyes of men, so that Your glory may be seen in my life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
