God’s Reputable Example
17th OCTOBER, 2021
God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. [Genesis 1:31 NRSV]
We have heard people say, and may have said ourselves: Rest, even God rested on the 7th day. While that is good and true, we must not ignore what precipitated the rest. God had worked a full 6-day shift.
Our very first introduction to our Maker finds Him at work. God put effort and dedication and discipline into creating the world as we know it. He had a goal to meet (i.e. create the world) and He followed a strategic plan that brought Him closer to His goal day by day.
God did not put off for the next or last day, what He had planned to do for a particular day. And we see this thread throughout Scripture. That God is always working behind the scenes and whenever we look back, we can see how opportune and timely His works are.
In the same way, we must seek to emulate Him with our work ethic. Our work must show evidence of the divine. We should not be lacking in dedication, discipline or just plain hard work.
The grace of God over our lives, the ease of our salvation, and the mercy we receive for the sake of the cross are not excuses for laziness in any facet of life. We must work out our salvation. We must show good work ethics at our workplaces and in our school work. Whenever people meet us, let them find us earnestly working hard from the rest we receive in God.
Dear Lord, thank You for Your reputable example. I pray for Your wisdom to do what I need to in order to emulate You here. Amen
