Hope Fulfilled in Love
23rd FEBRUARY 2022

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love [Romans 5:5 NLT].
Hope is a conviction of the possibility for an expectation or desire to be fulfilled. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us to a place where we can rejoice in the hope of experiencing God’s glory. In other words, we can celebrate the fact that one day we will get to fully experience the Glory of God. Till then, we have not been left high and dry. We are still privileged to experience expressions of God’s glory, one of which is His love.
The love of God is the bedrock of our hope, the solid foundation on which it is founded. As pointed out by our focal text, the gracious gift of hope is sealed by the unchangeable, irrefutable love of God. Hence, God will never disappoint us, not just because He has the power to do all things, but because He loves us.
However, in a world of disappointment and failed expectations, it is easy to give up hope and stop believing that our desires will indeed become a reality. The heart-wrenching feeling that accompanies failed expectations was accurately captured by King Solomon when he wrote in Proverbs 13:12, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” We must be careful not to invest in the empty hope of a fleeting world, but rather in a stable God who never fails. When we place our hope in God alone, we won’t be disappointed and our hearts will certainly not become sick, for this hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
Thank You, Lord, for the love You have so generously poured into my heart. May it continue to produce hope in me that I will, in turn, please you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
