In the Ark of His Covenant

31st JULY 2020

It had the golden altar of incense and the ark (chest) of the covenant, covered over with wrought gold. This [ark] contained a golden jar which held the manna and the rod of Aaron that sprouted and the [two stone] slabs of the covenant [bearing the Ten Commandments]. [Hebrews 9:4 AMPC]

The Israelites were God’s chosen people and He desired to live amongst them. As a result, God promised them His presence throughout their journey in the wilderness from Egypt. Moses actually told God that he was not going to go if He (God) did not go with them (Exodus 33:14–15). So God went with them and they had peace on every side.

For God to dwell with His people, He instructed them to build the ark of the covenant which was to contain three symbolic things. The ark became an instrumental symbol of faith and God’s presence. The three items were; a Golden pot that contained manna, Aaron’s rod that budded and the Tablets bearing the Ten Commandments.

The Golden pot that contained the manna, represented God’s provision. In God’s presence, we receive His provision. In His presence, He is able to deliver us and meet all our needs. Instead of running to man, we must rather run to God’s presence in our times of need.

Aaron’s rod is symbolic of direction and God’s guidance. We find direction for each phase of our lives in the presence of God; His presence gives us guidance. When we indeed spend time in his presence, we cannot be confused.

Spending time in His presence gives us insight into His will for our lives.

The ark also contained the tablets; the commandments given to the Israelites. It was God’s Word to His people. God’s Word is light onto our path. In order to fulfil God’s assignment and run the race that has been set before us, we need God’s Word. His provision, His guidance and His Word are essential to the success of a believer and these can only be found when we spend quality time in God’s presence.

Dear Father, thank You for Your presence which is ever ready to guide and lead me in Your Will.
