Keep the Thief Out
6th DECEMBER 2022
A thief comes [only] to steal and kill and destroy, but I came to give life [that they might have life] — life in all its ·fullness [abundance] John 10:10 EXB
No burglar would want to steal anything useless. They would seek something rare, priceless, and valuable. Similarly, we recognise that the enemy strikes what he perceives to be vital. If the enemy of believers is all about dragging us down and preparing for our demise, why should he waste his time on things that aren’t necessary?
Consider this. Why are there so many attacks on the family structure if it is not required for the development of a believer, a community, or a nation? Families, both biological and spiritual, require love in order to thrive. Love brings harmony, peace, patience, and every other quality required when living and interacting with others who can step on your toes or have seen you at your worst.
The Bible teaches that God places the lonely in families, and the disciples were sent out in pairs. The power of unity and togetherness is immense. Even the people of Babel had to be separated before their evil scheme could be thwarted. We were created to aid one another. In Mark 3:24–25, the Bible says, ‘If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.’
A family that is divided and warring cannot survive. A family that does not practise love will find it difficult to assist a member who is in pain or confused. It’s easy to give in to peer pressure and blame others, but we must accept responsibility for any role we play that undermines unity, and we must pray to God for love to reign in our families. No circumstance is too difficult for God to work on, no matter where you are.
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for my family. Lord, help us to remain united in love so that the enemy does not gain a foothold in our midst to sow confusion and discord. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
