Lead in Humility

2nd DECEMBER, 2021

Christ for Youth International

A leader is someone who guides other people into achieving something. There are good leaders and bad leaders. It takes conscious effort to be the former. As Christians and Kingdom leaders, irrespective of the level of leadership we exert, we are privileged to have the perfect person to look up to when it comes to leadership. Jesus Christ, by all accounts and experiences of leadership, is that perfect example we look up to.

For even the Son of Man came not to have service rendered to Him, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for (instead of) many. Mark 10:45 AMPC

To be a good leader comes with certain characteristics, and the best book to read about leadership is the Bible. One of such characteristics includes service. Leadership doesn’t mean you have to lord your position over others or be “bossy”. It also doesn’t mean you have to demand respect from those you’re leading. It requires humility. Great leadership is marked by a life of genuine service in humility. As you serve the purposes of God diligently, the respect and honour that is due you will inevitably follow.

Remember that as a leader, people look up to you, people learn from you, so you have to lead in a way that you'll earn respect. This begins when you humble yourself and patiently serve. Have patience with the people you lead, partner with the Holy Spirit, and seek His guidance on how to go about things as you lead. Have margin for people and forgive easily. Do not harbour offences in your heart, neither entertain bitterness. Don’t just be a leader, endeavour to be a great leader regardless of the number of people you lead.
