Leadership is Influence

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” [Matthew 5:14 NKJV]
Leadership is simply influence. Influence is the power or capacity to have an effect on a person or thing. The source of our leadership is God. God created us in His image and deposited in us the spirit of leadership. The God-kind of influence enables us to direct others and guide them towards God’s intended purpose for them.
People without leadership follow any path. Sometimes, people follow darkness because they have not been directed to the alternative - light. We are the light of the world. Light gives people a clearer vision and a sense of direction.
When a true leader shows up, chaos must give way. Darkness and chaos are only as strong as the absence of light. Our homes will be better if we shine as light. Our communities will become better if we shine as light. Our workplaces will become better if we shine as light. That is why Jesus encourages us to let our light always shine [Matthew 5:16].
The day we stop letting our light shine, we cease to influence others and we become “supporters” of chaos.
Continuous influence is as a result of letting our light shine daily. This brings glory to God. Light brings progress to people’s lives. When we fail to lead, we hinder the progress of those we are to lead. We are in this world to make a difference in the lives of others. There is a call on our lives to influence the world positively for Christ and we must stay true to this call.
Father, give me the grace to let my light shine daily so I may bring glory to You.
